If so, you are eligible to participate in The GAUNTLET!

The Gauntlet is a small business enterprise development event being held in late April. Leading up to the event, we have business classes which will help our entrepreneurs and community advocates hone their business ideas and concepts. The unique caveat to our event is that our advocates must demonstrate a “double bottom line”, which means they must pursue financial and social returns on investment.

Thanks to a grant from Virginia BCC, we’re awarding cash and prizes to businesses that are starting in or expanding to Roanoke and Botetourt County. The grant money and prizes will provide valuable business assets such as office space, business licenses, chamber memberships, computers, training, and money for equipment and supplies. Business owners will demonstrate how they will leverage these awards to create economic growth within the community.

At the beginning of February we will begin a training program, which will engage entrepreneurs in business plan development, market research, operational detail and sales/marketing techniques. The program will culminate with judged presentations, business plan evaluations and ultimately the GAUNTLET Business Competition awards event. This competition is our regions largest! Schedule: You are required to attend 10 weeks of our Business Competition Classes once a week. Two options are offered, Tuesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm or Thursday from 10:00am-11:30am. After the classes, you will present your developed business plan and needs to a panel of judges. The first week of class begins Tuesday, February 7th. with the award ceremony being held on May 11th.

  • We are looking for capital as well as in-kind donations such as personnel or expertise in website development or marketing assistance for the applicants.
